It is very sad to report that Joe Smith, Ex-Chairman of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.) has sadly passed away today (12.03.21) aged 89.

Joe was a former policeman in Sandyford & Goldenhill for many years before becoming a sergeant where he kept our area safe from crime, and was based at the former Goldenhill Police Station. His other passion in life was being a committed member of our residents association where he always wanted the best for the residents he was so proud to represent.

Joe Smith was the last former founder of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association still on the committee, which was started back in 1999 when it joined forces with the then Goldenhill Residents Group.

In February 2015 Joe officially opened the “Free Shoppers Car Park” on Goldenhill High Street where he campaigned for 13 years to remove a much needed eyesore from the village, which has proved to be most effective by taking many vehicles off the busy A50 road that runs through our area.

Joe was a well-respected person by everyone who knew him; he was a caring individual who would do anything to help anybody who needed his support, which is a rare commodity in today’s world.

Our sincere condolences go out to his beloved wife Joyce, his two son’s, and all of his grandchildren; Joe you will be sadly missed by us all. God Bless!
