Goldenhill Community Centre in Proposed Transfer Bid

Stoke on Trent City Council has contacted Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.), along with Councillor Chandra Kanneganti in regards to an asset transfer of Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre to a local charity.

The charity “Just Family” http://justfamily-cic.org/ have shown an interest in taking over the running of the building from the council to enhance the services they provide. Concerns have been raised by S.A.G.E. and Councillor Kanneganti to what kind of input the local community would have should the Community Centre be transferred to a third party.

Upon talks with the City Council, it has been assured that any organisation taking charge of the Community Centre would have to honour the groups using the building with the same terms and conditions it presently holds.

The council further added that no final decision has been made in regards to the asset transfer, but said whatever decision is made the building will stay in use for the benefit of the community.

The City Council believe that transferring the Community Centre to a charity would bring much needed investment into the building, and would further benefit the community at large.

It was further reported that the Community Centre will continue to be owned by the council and will return to them at the end of any lease, adding that if a transfer is agreed it will continue to remain as a Community Centre.

Councillor Kanneganti and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association are jointly committed to scrutinise any decision made by the council to ensure Goldenhill Community Centre stays as a venue for it’s residents.
