pubs & clubs

Ok, this is David, born and bred at Goldenhill, lived there until I was 19, moved to Sandyford until I was 28 then moved to Wedgwood Farm, Tunstall.

8 years ago we moved to North Wales and now I am retired.

Let's start the ball rolling with, who can name all the pubs and clubs associated with Sandyford and Goldenhill,as they were in the 60s and before.

Start at the bottom where KFC is now and finish at the top of Kidsgrove Bank.

Include the ones at Latebrook and Acres Nook.

As a bonus where was the outdoor beerhouse or off-license, ie which street was it in.

I make it 14.

Hi David,

To start the pubs off I will mention the Dog & Partridge at Shelford Road, which changed to the Hop In and then back to the Dog & Partridge. It is of course now McDonald's.

Many thanks for starting the Local Memories Forum off for us.

Tom.

Correct,Tom, there was a pub called The Gardeners Rest and that was where KFC is now.

When it was demolished the landlord Bill Knapper moved to the the Dog & Partridge which later became The Hop Inn.

That's 2, only 12 to go.

Hi David,

I hope some more people come on and give us the remaining names of the public houses. A lot of people are now visiting the website but not commenting. Anyway, what about the Nelson on the High Street at Goldenhill but unfortunately it got burnt down.

Thank you David for the remaining pubs in Sandyford and Goldenhill. People are viewing the local memories page because it shows up on the stats but they must be a little shy, a bit like me ha! ha!

The website has been promoted at our Public General Meeting on Thursday 13.01.11 so hopefully a few more comments.

The meeting attracted 82 local residents and guests so S.A.G.E. must be doing something right.

Tom.
