Hundreds of thousands of drivers have been warned their car isn’t compatible with the new greener E10 petrol that is being rolled out across forecourts.
It comes as part of government plans to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. The difference between E10 and E5 petrol is that the former contains up to 10% ethanol – double the 5% amount found in E5.
The RAC estimates that 700,000 older vehicles shouldn’t use E10 – these vehicles must instead opt to use more expensive E5 super unleaded which will cost more.
