Millions of drivers are expected to take to the roads this Easter, with the long bank holiday, creating one of the busiest travel periods of the year. According to RAC and transport data, over 19 million journeys are forecast across the weekend, with around 2.5–2.7 million trips per day at peak times.
Traffic is expected to be heaviest from Thursday afternoon through Good Friday, with delays of over an hour on major routes like the M25, M5, and A303. In total, up to 27 million leisure journeys could take place in the wider Easter travel window, highlighting just how busy the roads will be.
It’s not just roads. Rail and travel networks are also under pressure, with engineering works and disruptions expected on key routes, while demand for staycations continues to rise, with around 40% of travellers choosing to stay domestic this Easter . Peak congestion is typically between 11am and 3pm on Good Friday, so drivers are advised to travel early or later in the day where possible.
Planning ahead, checking routes, and preparing your vehicle can make all the difference in avoiding delays and ensuring a smoother Easter getaway.
