Warm Weather Safety Advice for Residents
on: June 23, 2026, 11:50

As temperatures rise, please take a few simple steps to stay safe and well during the warm weather:

Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid too much alcohol or caffeine, as they can dehydrate you.

Keep Cool Indoors – Close blinds or curtains during peak sunlight hours. Open windows when it’s cooler outside (early morning/evening) to let fresh air circulate.

Limit Sun Exposure – Try to stay out of direct sunlight between 11am–3pm when UV levels are highest. If you must go out, wear sunscreen, a hat, and light, loose clothing.

Check on Vulnerable Residents – Older adults, young children, and those with health conditions may be more at risk. Please check in on neighbours, friends, and family regularly.

Vehicle Safety – Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable individuals alone in parked vehicles—even for a short time.

Pet Care – Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh water. Avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day—pavements can burn their paws.

Know the Signs of Heat Illness – Look out for symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, or confusion. Seek medical help if needed.

Fire Risk – Dry conditions increase fire risk. Dispose of cigarettes safely and avoid open flames or BBQs in unsafe areas.

Stay safe, look after each other, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly.
