Staffordshire Police are reminding people not to leave their vehicles unattended while defrosting them following recent thefts in Stoke-on-Trent today.
Between 6am and 10am, when most people are defrosting their vehicles ahead of going to work or doing their first journey of the day, thieves are looking for easy opportunities and have been targeting vehicles left unattended.
Please don’t make it easy for opportunists during this latest cold weather snap, which is expected to continue into next week.
Make sure you stay with your vehicle at all times when it’s defrosting, or running. Also, keep your keys with you at all times.
To report a theft, call 101 or use Live Chat on our website.
Always call 999 in an emergency.
The police is urging all vehicle owners to be aware of the risk when defrosting.

David Williams, Stoke on Trent North M.P. supports Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, along with Councillor Chandra Kanneganti to reinstate a named police officer since the last one was transferred out of the area earlier in the year.
Staffordshire police say there are a number of police officers who operate across the north of the city, and cover the Sandyford & Goldenhill area, which the residents association accepts, but when as a residents group for the first time in over 25 years are unable to invite a P.C. to its public meetings seems to be a step backwards by the force. The association is also unable to send out its meeting minutes to a police constable, and as in previous years a nominated P.C. has an interest in the area, and if and when they are able to do so, they would visit hot spot areas to give advice and support to businesses to deal with e.g. antisocial behaviour.
Staffordshire Police also say that a new Police Sergeant has been introduced within the team to help address any concerns of support, although this may appear as additional support to the area, but unfortunately the residents association has always had support from its Sergeants for over a quarter of a century.
It is unfortunate that within months of a good working relationship, especially when Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has supported the police for more than 25 years through its Community Speedwatch project, and reporting articles of advice and criminal activity through its social media sites that such a small request has been overlooked by a force when neighbourhood policing should be at a forefront as indicated by the Prime Minister.

Staffordshire Police are reminding “what is the Law if you have a E-Scooter”.
You can buy one but you can’t ride it on a UK public road, cycle lane or pavement. The only place an E-Scooter can be used is on private land with the landowners permission.
Why is this?
E-Scooters are classified as Powered Transporters, so they are treated as motor vehicles and subject to the same legal requirements such as :
. MOT
. Licensing
. Tax
. Insurance
As E-Scooters do not have number plates, signaling ability and don’t always have visible rear lights, they can’t be used legally on the roads.
As temperatures drop, black ice and snow can make driving much more hazardous. Take extra care while visiting loved ones – especially on roads you don’t know.
If you’re taking turns to be a designated driver this year, you may be surprised to know that having comprehensive insurance doesn’t necessarily cover you to drive other cars. A word with your insurance provider or check your documents to make sure you are legal to drive another vehicle.
Be safe and enjoy your Christmas and New Year.
Festive Wishes to all Residents

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Ben Adams is responsible for setting the budget for Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, including the amount of council tax used for both services.
The Commissioner is now asking people across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to have their say on how much council tax they would be prepared to pay for their local Policing and Fire & Rescue services.
The consultation runs until 12 January and you can have your say here to help inform the Commissioner’s decisions: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/precept2526
Just a reminder from Staffordshire Police regarding vehicle crime as the bad weather starts.
Vehicle theft is rife within the county at the moment, there are things you can do to help protect your vehicle during these miserable cold mornings.
Do not leave your vehicle unattended while defrosting. It is easy to start your vehicle and leave it running while you nip back into the warmth of your home, however, there are opportunist thief’s out there waiting for you to leave your vehicle unattended.
Ensure you have de-icer at hand and a scraper which will allow you to defrost your car quicker also a windscreen cover is a great investment to help keep you out of the cold.
Remember car thief’s use the cold frosty weather to their advantage and look for unattended vehicles that people are defrosting to steal – PLEASE DON’T LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE RUNNING UNATTENDED TO RETURN BACK INTO YOUR HOME ADDRESS.
Stay safe and have a Merry Christmas.
