 Police are treating a house fire which left a man in hospital as arson. Staffordshire Fire & Rescue were called to an address in Burnaby Road, Sandyford on Tuesday evening (10th July).
A man, in his 30s, was treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital. An investigation into the incident has proved that the fire was started deliberately.
Firefighters attended the scene from Sandyford and Hanley fire stations, along with an ambulance paramedic where a man at the address had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

 Goldenhill Fun Day on Saturday 4th August is looking for someone to have a cake stall at the event. The stalls open at 12.00 noon and finish around 4.00 p.m. and set up time is around 11.00 a.m.
Cake stalls on the day do really well and for £5 you will be issued with a table, which is located under a gazebo, what more could you want.
The event attracts 100’s of people on the day, and it is a good opportunity to make lot’s of money, why not give it a try!

 Fire in park area behind Sandy Road on Thursday Yesterday it was reported a fire on a park area behind Sandy Road, Sandyford was believed to have been started deliberately. Unconfirmed reports have said that two other fires yesterday in the same area were also intentionally started on grass land behind Ridge Road.
It has recently been reported that today firefighters have been called out yet again to another fire in Sandyford near to John’s Motors in Colclough Lane.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association is asking residents to report any suspicious criminal activity in the area, especially where there is a possibility of fires being deliberately started.
Always report criminal/antisocial activity to Staffordshire Police on 101 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or if a more serious nature 999, which includes Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service.
 Residents are witnessing a fire on a local park area behind Sandy Road, Sandyford. Hedges behind the houses are a blaze and the fire brigade have been called to the scene.
No injuries have been reported but people are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the intensity of smoke.
It is not known how the fire started whether it was deliberate or due to the dry weather conditions.

 Residents are being urged to be on their guard following a report of a suspicious automated phone call, which claimed to be from BT. It stated that the home broadband would be disconnected, and to follow the options to either continue or cancel. Fortunately, the person receiving the call did not give any personal information or bank details away, and hung up. They contacted BT, and they confirmed that it wasn’t them, and that they wouldn’t make contact in this way.
Residents are being reminded to never give any personal details to a cold caller. If you have any doubts as to how genuine they are, terminate the call and contact your provider through a verified method.
 It was reported that armed police were in Brindley Village, Sandyford today when a man was seen with a gun.
Police officers in several marked vehicles, along with sniffer dogs arrived at the scene in Essington Way at approximately 12.00 noon.
It is said that two Stoke-on-Trent men aged in their mid-forties have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
At the scene it was also said that a BB gun has been apprehended.

Goldenhill & Sandyford Community Litter Pick, Thursday 14th June
 Ridge Road, Sandyford It is nice to throw a light on how street names came to be, and on this occasion it is the Sandyford Estate behind McDonald’s.
A gentleman named Mr Wignall (Wignall Road) was a builder who built the majority of the estate, and he had two daughters, one named Maureen (Maureen Avenue) and another named Sandra (Sandy Road). It is not known how Ridge Road got it’s name, but it is believed it is because it is on a slight ridge, hence the name.
A gentleman named Russell Bates was the builder who built the houses in Russell Road and Russell Place hence their names.
Unfortunately, there is no history to tell us how Whalley Drive and Henshall Place got their names, so if anyone out there knows how, then please let us know.
