Budget Consultation Feedback Event

As part of our 2017/18 budget consultation, Stoke on Trent City Council will be holding a special resident feedback event on Tuesday, January 17 in Stoke Town Hall.

The event will give everyone who lives and works in Stoke-on-Trent the chance to talk to senior city council officers and cabinet members about the proposals to save £61m over the next three years.

A range of options have been put forward to allow us to meet the tough challenge of helping older people to live well at home and supporting the growing numbers of children in care.

At the event you’ll also be able to find out more about the Stronger Together priorities that will help to shape the future of the city, as well as ask questions, offer ideas and give your views on the budget proposals. There will be free refreshments and parking is available on Kingsway car park in Stoke for just £1 after 3pm.

The drop-in event takes place 3pm to 7pm in the Jubilee Hall, which is in Stoke Town Hall, and you can drop-in to speak to us at any time. The public consultation runs until January 24, and all feedback collected will be used by councillors to help make final decisions when setting the annual budget.

For more information, visit www.stoke.gov.uk/budget2017 where there’s still time to fill in an online feedback form, or email budget2017@stoke.gov.uk

Anyone who was in the area yesterday, and who may have seen anything suspicious, is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 579 or 588 of 3 January.

Personal & Property Security Presentation

A personal and property security presentation was delivered by “db Security” at a recent Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Committee Meeting.

Darren Mood from the security company talked to committee members and Councillor Martin Garner in respect to what they do in the wider community.

It was reported the company already supports Staffordshire Police and the City Council to deal with antisocial behaviour, including operating a CCTV van to record antisocial activity.

Mr Mood informed the committee that as a company they advise on CCTV law, and that some major store outlets who sell CCTV products are not prosecutable as evidence in law and their only use is for monitoring purposes.

Personal and property products available from “db Security” include, as shown in picture WAWA CCTV KITS, evidence obtained by the system would stand up in a court of law, price fitted £400 to £450 including VAT, and in certain cases grants are available.

Panic alarms where a fall would activate it, e.g. a family member could be made aware of the fall; price to purchase would be £70 including VAT for the first year, although it would cost extra if monitored by a call centre.

Visonic burglar alarm “wireless”, price fitted approximately £350 including VAT.

LED security lights, £40 each including VAT, they can be activated by people or timed.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from S.A.G.E.

Full Council Meeting Discusses Community Centre’s Future

Earlier today Stoke on Trent City Council discussed issues surrounding the future of Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre at it’s full council meeting.

Sheila Sidley, Lead petitioner gave a presentation in support of the 1,000 plus petition signatures to Stoke on Trent City Council to save the community centre from closure.

Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) and the Out & About Club who are users of the centre also attended the meeting from the public gallery to support the petition.

The City Council said it was not their intention to propose closure of the community centre, although it was announced at the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Public Meeting by Councillor Martin Garner earlier in the year that Ruth Smeeth M.P. and he had been informed of the council’s intention to close the centre by the end of March 2017 if an asset transfer partner was not found.

At today’s meeting it was agreed the “Overview & Scrutiny Committee” would investigate the situation further where it has the power to make recommendations to the cabinet on the centre’s future.
