Earlier today an attempted burglary was foiled at the KFC restaurant in Sandyford.
Police were called out in the early hours of this morning to the incident, which evolved in the arrest of a 20 year old man.
At the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.) Public Meeting, which was held 10 days ago, police informed the 140 attended meeting that Sandyford/Goldenhill was the best area in the city for reduced crime, which surprised people after hearing of this today.
Incidents like this, which happen at a busy junction of the A50 and A527 is a recipe for disaster for anyone who tries to attempt criminal activity in such a prominent position.

James Brindley Way, Sandyford, where Travellers previosly occupied the site.
Travellers have moved off the disused golf course in Goldenhill to a new site off James Brindley Way, Sandyford.
It appears the Travellers moved off the golf course prior to council officers attending court today, in an attempt of obtaining a possession order to make them leave the site.
This is not the first time the Travellers have gained access to the Sandyford site, and as previous the fencing has been removed to gain entry.
Unfortunately, the site is privately owned, and the owners will have the responsibility of having to get the occupiers evicted.
Attending the meeting from left to right - P.C.Jamie Burton, Sergeant Karl Brean, Councillor Candidates Steve Taylor & Martin Garner, Parliamentary Labour Candidate Ruth Smeeth, SAGE Secretary Tom Simpson, SAGE Chairman Lynn Dunning, Parliamentary Candidates Independent Craig Pond & John Millward, UKIP Geoff Locke, Conservative Ben Adams & Green Party Sean Adam
140 residents and guests attended the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Public General Meeting “Hustings” yesterday evening at Goldenhill Community Centre.
The meeting went very well with all candidates giving a report, and receiving questions from residents.
Questions asked to Parliamentary Candidates consisted of what their views are on
- Budget cuts across Stoke on Trent
- Educating society re cutting foreign aid budget “how safe would our country be”
- Immigration
- NHS
- Local industries, which we don’t have anymore
All candidates responded to the questions by giving a variety of views, which residents said they found quite interesting.
The Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.) would like to take this opportunity of thanking residents and guests for attending the meeting and making it a most enjoyable one.

This will be a good opportunity for residents to come along to the meeting and hear first-hand what the Parliamentary Candidates have to say as well as being given the chance to ask questions.

S.A.G.E. look forward to welcoming everyone to the meeting.
Goldenhill High Street, which was closed earlier this week was due to a fire at the old St John’s School on the corner of Elgood Lane.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, S.A.G.E. has been pressing for the Birmingham site owners to come and discuss the future of the land, along with Councillor Martin Garner at an arranged meeting last year, but unfortunately the land owners turned down the request.
Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service have attended the site on a number of occasions over the past 2 years, and it was inevitable that one fire would eventually cause the amount of damage that this has.
The property which closed as a school approximately 40 years ago has over the past 15 years become an eyesore to the area, and residents are calling for something to be done with the building.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association is holding it’s Public Meeting next Thursday, 23rd April at 7.30 p.m. Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre and it is believed residents will be calling for action from the land owners and City Council.
Other concerns being raised by S.A.G.E. and local residents is the future safety of St John’s Church, since being closed due to dwindling congregations.

Travellers have moved onto the previously owned Jack Barker Golf Course in Goldenhill.
It was reported by residents that Travellers with their caravans entered the site late on Wednesday evening.
Residents have relayed their concerns about the land being left unoccupied for a number of years, and were always concerned that what has happened now has not happened before.
The next Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Public Meeting is to take place at Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre on Thursday 23rd April 7.30 p.m. and it will be highly probable that residents will be asking questions to why the council has not done something with the land previously.
Reports have been made that the City Council is actioning the removal of the Travellers along with their vehicles from the land.
