Stoke on Trent's Deprived Neighbourhoods
on: October 15, 2019, 23:37

It has recently been reported that 29 out of 44 wards in Stoke on Trent with at least one neighbourhood is in 10% of the most deprived in the country.

10 of the cities wards in the north of Stoke on Trent include, Goldenhill and Sandyford, Tunstall, Great Chell and Packmoor, Little Chell and Stanfield, Bradeley and Chell Heath, Baddeley, Milton and Norton, Burslem Central, Burslem Park, Moorcroft, Ford Green and Smallthorne.

To tackle the stigma of deprivation, Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.) looks at a number of factors of how it is moving towards improving the area for it's local residents.

S.A.G.E. encourages and supports business development within the area, which helps with the local economy as well as increasing employment opportunities. It assists residents by notifying the police with their support of antisocial activity in the area, which helps to stabilise neighbourhoods. The residents association keeps on top of environmental crime by contacting the council to report issues such as litter and fly tipping. The residents group encourages walking fitness on a weekly basis for residents to participate in. Public meetings are arranged so residents have contact with guest speakers such as their local M.P. and ward councillor to Staffordshire Police.
