Postal Theft

Staffordshire Police say here are some useful tips to reduce the risk of doorstep parcel theft and to help prevent your parcel from being stolen.

Track your parcel to ensure you or someone else is at home for the delivery.

Install a video doorbell, this can be connected to your mobile so you will be notified immediately of any delivery, and is easier to install than a full CCTV system.

Install a security light.

Arrange for your parcel to be delivered to a trusted neighbour, or other family members who will be at home, if you live in a flat, is there e.g. a caretaker or responsible person who could accept the parcel for you.

Use an off-site locker service for frequent deliveries, or for expensive items, these parcel boxes are more likely be in busy, safer locations – such as supermarkets – rather than secluded areas which could be targeted by thieves.

Car Safety Advice

Staffordshire Police are reminding residents that due to a recent increase in vehicle thefts in the local area, please ensure you leave plenty of time before your journey, factoring in time to defrost your vehicle. Do not leave your car keys in your ignition, unattended even if its on your driveway. Unattended vehicles with keys in the ignition are easy targets for somebody targeting vehicles to steal. In addition to this, driving your vehicle with your window screen foggy, misty, icy or in any way obstructed is a criminal offence.

Goods Seized in Tunstall by Trading Standards

Today Trading standards have been carrying out checks in the Tunstall area as part of the day of action. A number of items have been seized, including illegal vapes and un safe electrical goods.

Youths Kicking Peoples Front Doors

Staffordshire Police want to make parents aware that a group of youths in the Fegg Hayes area are kicking at peoples front doors for fun. Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association would also like to report that this antisocial activity has recently been happening in the Sandyford area as well.

Some people being targeted are elderly, some have young children and others have dogs that are being stressed by the noise.

Please be aware of your child’s whereabouts, what seems like fun to them could become criminal damage.

The police will be working with the community in either of the areas to stop this behaviour and identify the offenders, no one wants a child to have a criminal record before leaving school.

Staffordshire Police say that you may have seen increased local coverage on the topic of knives over the past week as we’re currently working with partners to promote the Ditch the Blade campaign.

To reassure you, 99% of young people aged 10 to 29 don’t carry a knife, so it’s not a common thing.

However, we know that some young people may feel pressured to carry, or may carry due to fear, so we’re encouraging everyone to have a conversation with the young people in their lives to make them aware of the potential risks and consequences, so they can make an informed decision to Ditch the Blade.

Knife banks for the anonymous disposal of knives

Since the last campaign, we now have more knife bank locations across Staffordshire enabling the anonymous disposal of knives. You can check where your nearest location is by viewing the map on our website: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/police-forces/staffordshire-police/areas/staffordshire-police/campaigns/2021/ditchtheblade/

You can also take a knife to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre (Tip) for disposal if you do not have a knife amnesty bank nearby.

If you’re dropping off a knife at a knife bank, or a recycling centre, please make sure it’s suitably wrapped and secure for your journey.

New Ditch the Blade podcast

To help communities understand the local situation when it comes to knives, we’re sharing the views of three different organisations through a new podcast about knife crime. The conversation features representatives from:

· Staffordshire Police Violence Reduction Team

· Catch 22

· Stoke on Trent Youth Offending Service.

The podcast explores the educational and operational work happening in partnership across the county to tackle knife crime, looking at who is most likely to carry a knife, why they may choose to do this, common signs to spot and what we’re doing as a partnership to tackle this important issue.

Pebbles Legacy Dog Rescue Appeal

Staffordshire Police say they were sad to see that the brilliant charity Pebbles Legacy Dog Rescue is struggling to continue. Officers and Staff at Burslem & Hanley Police Stations are collecting food and blankets hoping to help the amazing staff continue looking after vulnerable dogs.

If you have any unwanted blankets or would be able to donate food to Pebbles but are unable to get it there then please contact Sarah Bowen via email and she will pick items up and deliver with their contributions.

Stone Thrown by Teenagers Causing Damage to Car Windscreen

Staffordshire Police have reported an incident on James Brindley Way (Sandyford) just up from the Hungry Horse pub by the traffic lights on Friday 17th November at approximately 3.30 p.m.

The incident involved several teenagers where a stone was thrown and resulted in damaging a car windscreen. The driver and passenger were badly shaken and luckily no one was injured this time, but it could have been a more serious incident.
