Residents are fed up of continuing clanging of a manhole cover at the junction of Shelford Road/High Street, Sandyford near to McDonald’s.
At times as many as 1,000 vehicles pass over the manhole cover, which consists of repeated noise pollution that residents class as a form of Chinese Water Torture.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association have been in contact with Severn Trent Water who are responsible for the repair, and have said they will be contacting Highways tomorrow 05.11.24 to request a permit to implement a two way traffic light and road closure to do the work.
Severn Trent Water have said they have to give 15 weeks notice to repair the manhole, which means the work would take place around the second week in February 2025. Severn Trent did say they understand the inconvenience this is causing nearby residents and have stressed they will try to get the repair done much sooner.
Councillor Chandra Kanneganti and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association are both jointly speaking to Council Highways to try and speed up the permit approval so Severn Trent can get the repair done as quickly as possible.

- What time can fireworks be used?
Fireworks can be used in the UK any time from 7am to 11pm.
Exceptions are:
- Bonfire night: 7am to midnight
- New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year: 7am to 1am the following day
Who can use fireworks?
- it’s an offence to throw or set off any firework (including sparklers and category 1 fireworks) in or into any highway, street, thoroughfare or public space
What is the impact of firework misuse?
Used irresponsibly, fireworks can cause damage to property and do significant harm to people and animals. Not only is there a danger from fireworks exploding, they can also pose a serious fire risk as well.
This is why members of the public may only use fireworks on private property, such as their back gardens, and only licensed professionals can use them in public places.
What you can do
If a local retailer is selling adult fireworks to people under 18, please report it to your local Trading Standards.
If children are setting off fireworks in your area, our first advice is to ask them politely to stop. It’s possible they’re unaware that they are breaking the law. If you know their parents, perhaps ask them to intervene. If you’re having an ongoing problem with people setting off fireworks, please report antisocial behaviour to the police.

Staffordshire Police say that there is a law around when it is acceptable to use fireworks in the UK.
Fireworks can only be used between a certain time of the day with only a few exceptions, Bonfire night is one of those where they can be used between 7am – midnight.

Staffordshire Police have reported that on Monday 21st October a Community Protection Notice was issued to a male who has been aggressively begging in Tunstall Town Centre.
The male has been given conditions to stop doing the following specified things :- Not to beg or present yourself in such a position to cause members of the public to believe that you are homeless in order to obtain money or goods in public open spaces ( this includes behaviour such as sitting or lying on or in a sleeping bag or blanket and sitting with coins on the floor or in a container) in Tunstall Town Centre as bordered by The Boulevard, Scotia Road, Roundwell Street, Ladywell road, Watergate Street, Harewood Street, Connaught Street, Williamson Street and the alleyway at the rear of King William Street, as this has caused people harassment alarm and distress. This order will remain in place for 12 months and carries the power of arrest.
This follows a number of incidents where by this male as caused issues at Home Bargains and ASDA.
We are aware that this individual is not the only person begging in the area, we would always encourage people to report issues to the police and not to give food or money directly to persons begging outside the shops as they may not be homeless. When we engage with persons begging who are homeless we ensure that these persons are referred to the rough sleepers team and given the information on where to get a hot meal and support at the Hub.
If you wish to support the homeless please donate to the number of homeless charities in the area so that the money and goods can be given out to homeless persons and those most in need.

Staffordshire Police are reporting that “Stoke North” are currently experiencing a number of thefts of vehicles whereby the offenders have obtained the keys to the vehicle from homes where doors have been left unlocked, and the car keys being either on the house keys which have been left in the door or the keys being left by the door.
We area ware that these people are opportunists and if the house doors are locked they are moving on to other areas. Please ensure that you lock the doors to your homes and do not leave your car keys by any open or unlocked door or window.

Staffordshire police are already experiencing a number of calls in the Stoke North Area regarding Fireworks. With serval weeks until Bonfire night attached are some information leaflets.
UK law states :-
You cannot buy ‘adult’ fireworks if you’re under 18, and it’s against the law for anyone to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except on certain occasions this dose not include things like party poppers.
The law says you must not set off or throw fireworks (including sparklers) in the street or other public places.
You must not set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except for:
Bonfire Night, when the cut off is midnight
New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year, when the cut off is 1am
Check with your council to find out about any local rules for setting off fireworks.

Buying fireworks
You can only buy fireworks (including sparklers) from registered sellers for private use on these dates:
15 October to 10 November
26 to 31 December
3 days before Diwali and Chinese New Year
At other times you can only buy fireworks from licensed shops.

Citizens Advice are there to help, and can be contacted by visiting Goldenhill Community Centre, Drummond Street/High Street, Goldenhill, ST6 5RF to collect a referral form, when Citizens Advice will make direct contact to discuss your options. Alternatively, you can contact them by calling 0808 278 78 76.
In these difficult times for pensioners, and concerns of losing winter fuel allowance payment, especially those who believe they are not eligible to claim benefit that Councillor Kanneganti and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association would suggest speaking to Citizens Advice in strictest confidence.
