Young People Exploited By Criminals

Staffordshire Police are reporting that criminal gangs use desirable items to lure young people to work for them, these include trainers, clothing, cash and tech.

The police are asking is there a young person you know recently who has got some of these that are unexplained? If so, they could be being exploited.

Blackpool’s Big Dipper Turned 100 This Week

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is celebrating the centenary of it’s Big Dipper ride with it being one of the oldest wooden rollercoasters in the world when it opened on 23rd August 1923.

The Big Dipper is the second oldest rollercoaster still in use in Great Britain, although Margate’s Scenic Railway was the first.

The classic wooden design is a very different ride to a steel rollercoaster with it’s exciting rickety ride, which so many of us still love today.

“Love Your City” Fortnight 11th to 25th September

‘Love Your City’ fortnight is taking place from Monday 11 to Friday 25 September.

During this time, city councillors right across the city will be supporting our communities with litter picks and clean-up events. We’ll be marking world clean-up day on 16 September, and we’ll be starting to deliver new community spaces through our exciting Big Green Fund campaign.

We would love local community and charity organisations to join us during the fortnight to plant, paint, decorate, mow, clean and any other works to help to improve community spaces that are dear to you in Stoke-on-Trent.

If your organisation comes together to spruce up your local area, please email us via environmental.admin@stoke.gov.uk to tell us the works that you will be doing.

If you’re looking to work on public land and not your own land, then please make sure you carry out a risk assessment, and please check with us on any equipment that you’ll use. Our teams will advise you, if you send us an email.

Thank you for loving your city!

Prescription Medications & How They May Affect Your Driving

Staffordshire Police say that when you think of drug driving it’s likely you’re thinking of people driving after using illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin or ecstasy, but the reality is that certain prescribed drugs can also impair your ability to drive safely and may show up on a roadside drugs test.

These include:

•            Clonazepam:

•            Diazepam (Valium)

•            Flunitrazepam

•            Lorazepam

•            Methadone

•            Morphine

•            Oxazepam

•            Temazepam

As part of the police Safer Summer Roads campaign, they are encouraging everyone to consider factors that may make them more likely to be involved in an incident on the roads, and drugs which are one of these.

If you’re prescribed new medication, you’re always best to ask your doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional if it will affect your ability to drive. If you’re taking over the counter medication you can also check the advice leaflet, which should alert you to any possible side effects.

Even if the medication isn’t strong, but it makes you feel drowsy or unable to concentrate, you’re best to avoid driving to protect the safety of other road users.

Through the campaign we will also be drawing attention to illegal drug use, which if detected through one of our roadside drug wipes or a blood test back at the station, can lead to a minimum 12 month driving ban, a criminal record, a hefty fine, up to six months in prison and a driving licence endorsement for 11 years. To tackle the issue, our officers are proactively testing anyone they suspect of drug driving.

You can find more information about drug and drink driving here: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/rs/road-safety/alcohol-drug-driving/

No To Proposed Motocross For Former Goldenhill Golf Course

A meeting was held yesterday where Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) and Councillor Chandra Kanneganti discussed at length the proposal to have a motocross track at the former Goldenhill Golf Course.

Notes which were taken at the 25.07.23 meeting with senior officers from SAGE, Councillor Kanneganti and the proposed developer which were relayed onto local social media sites were discussed at length, along with an abundance of comments, including those from local residents.

A joint decision was then made by the SAGE Committee and Councillor Kanneganti not to support the idea at the venue by a majority decision.

Councillor Kanneganti and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association expressed their thank’s to the proposed developer for including them at this early stage with the proposals, and allowing us to share our thoughts with him.

2023 Goldenhill Fun Day, Saturday 5th August

Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) would like to thank everyone who braved “Storm Antoni” on Goldenhill & Sandyford’s special day of the year.

The event could not provide all the attractions we planned for, but Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre provided plenty of things for residents and children to enjoy on the day, especially with Aunty Dawn’s party games, face painting and balloon modelling, Momentum’s cheer leading group, and not forgetting Staffordshire Police with “Kash the Dog Mascot” and Staffordshire Fire Service from our very own Sandyford Community Fire Station.

Our thanks also go to our very own SAGE team who provided hot & cold food and drinks to everyone as well as the community centre staff who put on a bar so everyone could socialise in a pub like atmosphere.

We would also like to thank Jonathan Gullis M.P. for giving up his time to officially open the “Fun Day” for us, and to Councillor Kanneganti who attended on the day with our thanks to him for donating money from his ward budget, which helps SAGE to provide such events.
