Joe sitting at the front table Chairing the 2015 SAGE Public Meeting
It is very sad to report that Joe Smith, Ex-Chairman of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (S.A.G.E.) has sadly passed away today (12.03.21) aged 89.
Joe was a former policeman in Sandyford & Goldenhill for many years before becoming a sergeant where he kept our area safe from crime, and was based at the former Goldenhill Police Station. His other passion in life was being a committed member of our residents association where he always wanted the best for the residents he was so proud to represent.
Joe Smith was the last former founder of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association still on the committee, which was started back in 1999 when it joined forces with the then Goldenhill Residents Group.
In February 2015 Joe officially opened the “Free Shoppers Car Park” on Goldenhill High Street where he campaigned for 13 years to remove a much needed eyesore from the village, which has proved to be most effective by taking many vehicles off the busy A50 road that runs through our area.
Joe was a well-respected person by everyone who knew him; he was a caring individual who would do anything to help anybody who needed his support, which is a rare commodity in today’s world.
Our sincere condolences go out to his beloved wife Joyce, his two son’s, and all of his grandchildren; Joe you will be sadly missed by us all. God Bless!

Litter issues down Hollywall Lane, Sandyford is causing the area to look neglected, and it is making residents frustrated on how to address the ongoing issue.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) has been in contact with Stoke on Trent City Council to do a much needed clean-up of the area. The council has confirmed that they will send a team of workers to litter pick the lane sometime later in the year. The reason given not to litter pick immediately is because they need to close off the road to traffic due to safety aspects as in pavement areas are limited, the road is narrow in parts as well as it having blind bends.
The council stress that local residents who feel the need to litter pick Hollywall Lane would be putting themselves at great risk to their safety, so it is advised that the job is left to the council.
Councillor Chandra Kanneganti, along with SAGE would urge residents to report any littering or fly tipping in the area to the council or Staffordshire Police.

Staffordshire Police are reminding everyone that with the children returning to school next week to please be mindful about parking outside schools.
Parking restrictions are there to keep our children safe and make life better for local residents.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has been made aware of shipping containers appearing on Goldenhill Village Green.
After investigations made by the residents association, they have been advised the containers are at the location because of roof repairs being made to nearby bungalows by Stoke on Trent City Council, which is expected to take six months to do the work.
Residents have shared concerns in regards to what is happening on a precious piece of land, and what effect this will have on the lawned area once the containers are removed. It has further been mentioned that it might have been helpful if the council had have reported the activity to the Ward Councillor and residents association so people were aware of the situation beforehand.
Councillor Kanneganti pictured left presenting the defibrillator to Londis Manager “Sri”, also in attendance members of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association
Local community group Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, along with City Councillor Chandra Kanneganti who is also a local G.P. come together to help save lives.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) applied for over £900 from Councillor Chandra Kanneganti’s Ward Budget to purchase a much needed defibrillator to be sited at the Londis Supermarket & Post Office in Goldenhill.
The residents association topped up the much needed purchase by donating £50 out of its funds, and with the councillor contributing to such a good cause, it would be fitting he presented the lifesaving equipment to Kartheepan Sriramamoorthy “Sri” who is the manager of Londis.
Saving lives at this time of the COVID-19 epidemic is important to all of us, and it is believed that even if having a defibrillator located in the village saves one life then it will have been money well spent.
Sri on accepting the defibrillator into his Supermarket/Post Office welcomed having the equipment on site, saying he always supports the local community wherever he can, and having lifesaving apparatus on site; could mean the difference between someone’s life and death.
Chandra Kanneganti says that to have a defibrillator in a busy village like Goldenhill is invaluable to the local community. The councillor went onto say that having this piece of equipment to save lives is so easy to use, and he is looking to provide lifesaving training later in the year for local residents to attend an event.

Staffordshire Police report there is an increasing number of scam calls in regards to national insurance numbers being compromised. If you receive any calls out of the blue saying that the caller claims to be from the Police then ask them for their name and collar number or extension number, then call 101 and type the extension number to verify if they are legitimate.
Please remember! If you are called out of the blue in regards to your national insurance number and askes for a fee this is a scam.
