Lockdown restrictions are easing, and all drivers with an MOT due from 1st August are being urged to book an MOT test. This is a legal requirement.
Drivers who have an MOT test due before 1st August will still be granted the 6-month extension. For example, if your MOT is due on 31st July, it’ll be extended to 31st January 2021.
But even if your vehicle is exempt, you should take it to the garage immediately if you notice something wrong. You can still be prosecuted for driving an unsafe vehicle.
A few garages UK-wide remained open during the outbreak to conduct essential repairs. Now, 90% of garages are open across the country.
Staffordshire Police are reporting that Action Fraud have received over 2,600 reports about emails claiming to be from British Gas. The emails threaten to disconnect the recipient’s gas service if an outstanding bill is not paid.
The links in the emails lead to genuine-looking phishing websites that are designed to steal personal and financial details.
Your bank, or any other official organisation, won’t ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you need to check that it’s a genuine message, call them directly using a trusted phone number you already have from previous correspondence.
If you’ve spotted a suspicious email forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) on report@phishing.gov.uk
Staffordshire Police have recently been made aware of an Amazon scam via e-mail or text message asking you to click onto a link to update your payment or delivery details. Amazon will not send unsolicited texts or e-mails requesting money, package or personal information.
The police are reminding everyone not to reply or click on any link and report them to Amazon accordingly.
Criminals are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to try and get their hands on your money and personal information. To date, Action Fraud has received reports from 2,378 victims of Coronavirus-related scams, with the total losses reaching over £7 million.
How you can protect yourself from Coronavirus-related scams:
There are some simple steps you can take that will protect you from the most common Coronavirus-related scams. Here’s what you need to do:
1 – Watch out for scam messages
Your bank, or other official organisations, won’t ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you receive an email you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): report@phishing.gov.uk
2 – Shopping online
If you’re making a purchase from a company or person you don’t know and trust, carry out some research first, for example, by checking to see if others have used the site and what their experience was. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, other payment providers may not provide the same protection.
3 – Unsolicited calls and browser pop-ups offering tech support
Never install any software, or grant remote access to your computer, as a result of a cold call. Remember, legitimate organisations would never contact you out of the blue to ask for financial details such as your PIN or full banking password.
It has been reported that at 2.15 a.m. today a dark grey Vauxhall Zafira has been vandalised with a broken rear window in Wignall Road, Sandyford near to the junction with Ridge Road.
Two hooded suspects were seen running down Wignall Road from Maureen Avenue where the incident took place before returning by the same route.
Anyone who has witnessed the criminal activity are encouraged to contact the police on 101 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Stoke on Trent City Council has now placed a bollard at the entrance of a new pathway at it’s Mobberley Road entrance.
The bollard will hopefully prevent fly tipping in the area where recently offenders have unloaded asbestos onto the pathway, and earlier in the week open access allowed Travellers to go onto nearby land.
In the Sandyford & Goldenhill area because of so much open space it easy for fly tipping to take place. Stoke on Trent City Council, Staffordshire Police and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association is encouraging anyone witnessing fly tipping to report it to the council on 234234 or the police on 101.
It is reported that Tunstall High Street is to have new pavements laid in the town centre.
The work is expected to take up to 6 weeks and on completion should make the area a little more pleasant to visit.
Work has already started on the Town Hall, which is expected to open in the middle of next year. The council owned building will facilitate council staff, a children’s centre as well as the local centre and library.
Where possible residents in the nearby area are encouraged to shop in the town, remember the saying “use it or lose it”.

Staffordshire Police are warning residents not to leave their vehicles unlocked overnight or leave any valuables on display.
It is being reported there has been a recent increase in thefts from motor vehicles in the area, and are advising vehicle owners to lock it or lose it!
If you see anything suspicious in your area please telephone Staffordshire Police on 101 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

To the right of the picture you can just see the former Salt & Riley’s Builders Yard, and directly to the left the garage where the Cleveland petrol sign is positioned.
What is more striking about the picture is to see how there were fewer vehicles on the A50 road between Tunstall and Kidsgrove.
The two cars pictured to the left are the Mark 1 Ford Cortina and Ford Prefect, and to the right the very popular mini.
A statement issued by Staffordshire Police confirms that a man was seen with a weapon after police were called to Cotton Road, Sandyford at around 3.00 p.m.
It has been reported that three people have been arrested, and residents are being reassured there are no further threats to the public.
Staffordshire Police confirm they are continuing to carry out further inquiries at the the Cotton Road address.
