Please come to this special event and show support for both Angela and Diabetes UK in respect to raising money for a well worth charity.
Joe Smith officially opened the “Free Shoppers Car Park” at Goldenhill yesterday, where a number of people attended to give support to the outgoing S.A.G.E. Chairman, performing his final duty on Tuesday.
At the event were local residents, members of the S.A.G.E. committee, Councillor Martin Garner, Staffordshire Police and council officials from the Tunstall Local Centre.
Joe is the final serving member of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association who joined it when first inaugurated in 1999.
Joe said he was so proud to have been asked to do the honour of officially opening the village car park, with its many benefits to help ease vehicle congestion on the High Street.
Tom Simpson, S.A.G.E. Secretary said, we are pleased Joe will still be serving on the residents committee as a member, but he will be greatly missed in his role as Chairman with his many years of experience, and wealth of knowledge throughout the area.

Car Park before its recent transformation
Joe Smith S.A.G.E. Chairman, and former police constable of Goldenhill Police Station is to officially open the car park at Elgood Lane, Goldenhill on Tuesday 24th February at 12.30 p.m.
The car park will then be known as the “Free Shoppers Car Park.”
Joe along with support from the S.A.G.E. committee, and Councillor Martin Garner has worked hard over the past 10 years to achieve a much needed upgrade to the car park facility.
Joe Smith has told the website “I am pleased the car park is no longer an eyesore it once was, and by promoting its status, it is looking more hopeful that when visitors come to Goldenhill, and need to use local shops that they will want to visit the parking facility. This I am sure will bring much needed business to our area, along with helping to keep vehicle parking away from the High Street.”
The upgrading of the car park has been a gradual transformation with a new tarmac base, railings fitted around the front and sides as well as landscaping to the rear.
Councillor Martin Garner has also arranged out of Ward Budget Money to have a new trip rail fitted to the car park so that its boundary can be defined.
Everyone is welcome to come along to the official opening of the car park, and to see for yourself (picture shown) of what changes have taken place.
A three car crash on Saturday has again caused concern for residents who live on the High Street between Sandyford and Goldenhill.
It has been reported that 2 people were trapped in a taxi, which was involved in the accident near to Maureen Avenue.
The two injured parties were rushed to the nearby Royal Stoke Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
Residents are calling for traffic calming measures to be introduced along the A50 High Street.
Tom Simpson, Secretary of Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents Association, is calling for police to carry out a traffic survey in High Street.
He said: “As a group we have raised the issue of speeding with the police in the past because High Street is a main road. It’s very busy because it’s used by people going to and from the A500.
“I’d like to see a traffic survey carried out, including the use of police speed camera vans because it is an issue that we are aware of. I would also like to see radar speed signs installed to warn people of their speed because I don’t think a lot of people actually realise how fast they’re going.”

An appeal made by Goldenhill Workingmens Club against Stoke on Trent City Council to refuse permission to have the erection of open sided steel framed canopy with attached floodlights to existing portakabin, has been dismissed by The Planning Inspectorate.
Top Gear Car Wash who operate from the Goldenhill Workingmens Club Site, believe they would have benefited from having the canopy and floodlights.
Local residents also objected to the application, and for more on the appeal held on the 15th January, follow the link below.

On Thursday 15.01.15, eighty two people turned up to the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Public Meeting at Goldenhill Community Centre.
The meeting attracted speakers from JCB, DHL, Staffordshire Police, Councillor Martin Garner & Stoke on Trent City Councils Housing Team.
The Public Meeting attracted plenty of praise from residents who attended, and their compliments to S.A.G.E. have been graciously accepted by the committee.
An e-mail received via the sandyfordgoldenhill.co.uk website from Alan Colclough, local resident says, “Can I just say to all the people who worked so hard to make this meeting such a good night WELL DONE TO YOU ALL – I have now been the last two meetings and from what I have seen and heard, you are all doing a brill job, and from me 10 out of 10 and may the meetings continue – also to see JCB a top company giving a talk – and telling us their future plans, again well done JCB – from my point of view this can only add value to the goldenhill and tunstall area bringing jobs and much more to the area – Goldenhill will be seen in a different light and not too soon – I have also been to the community Centre and do use the centre – It is a strong and robust one – and many have closed across Stoke on Trent, and with you all putting the work and time in as you do, I as a local resident applaud you all, KEEP IT UP – AND THANKS FROM ME.”
