‘Love Your City’ fortnight is taking place from Monday 11 to Friday 25 September.
During this time, city councillors right across the city will be supporting our communities with litter picks and clean-up events. We’ll be marking world clean-up day on 16 September, and we’ll be starting to deliver new community spaces through our exciting Big Green Fund campaign.
We would love local community and charity organisations to join us during the fortnight to plant, paint, decorate, mow, clean and any other works to help to improve community spaces that are dear to you in Stoke-on-Trent.
If your organisation comes together to spruce up your local area, please email us via environmental.admin@stoke.gov.uk to tell us the works that you will be doing.
If you’re looking to work on public land and not your own land, then please make sure you carry out a risk assessment, and please check with us on any equipment that you’ll use. Our teams will advise you, if you send us an email.
Thank you for loving your city!

The fun day is in memory of Catherine Ware the wife of Paul who many will know him from Goldenhill and Packmoor Community Centre’s where he is the Caretaker. If anyone would like a stall or car boot pitch for £5 on the day then please TEXT ONLY To 07846 320592, all money raised going to Dougie Mac Hospice, setting up on day from 8.30 a.m. Packmoor community centre, Lorraine Street Packmoor ST7 4QG Saturday 2nd September.
Everyone is welcome and the day is a celebration of Catherine as well as raising much needed money for the Dougie Mac Hospice.
Staffordshire Police say that when you think of drug driving it’s likely you’re thinking of people driving after using illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin or ecstasy, but the reality is that certain prescribed drugs can also impair your ability to drive safely and may show up on a roadside drugs test.
These include:
• Clonazepam:
• Diazepam (Valium)
• Flunitrazepam
• Lorazepam
• Methadone
• Morphine
• Oxazepam
• Temazepam
As part of the police Safer Summer Roads campaign, they are encouraging everyone to consider factors that may make them more likely to be involved in an incident on the roads, and drugs which are one of these.
If you’re prescribed new medication, you’re always best to ask your doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional if it will affect your ability to drive. If you’re taking over the counter medication you can also check the advice leaflet, which should alert you to any possible side effects.
Even if the medication isn’t strong, but it makes you feel drowsy or unable to concentrate, you’re best to avoid driving to protect the safety of other road users.
Through the campaign we will also be drawing attention to illegal drug use, which if detected through one of our roadside drug wipes or a blood test back at the station, can lead to a minimum 12 month driving ban, a criminal record, a hefty fine, up to six months in prison and a driving licence endorsement for 11 years. To tackle the issue, our officers are proactively testing anyone they suspect of drug driving.
You can find more information about drug and drink driving here: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/rs/road-safety/alcohol-drug-driving/
Staffordshire Police have arranged a “Drop In Session” at Sandyford McDonald’s on Friday 18th August between 4.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.
The session is where residents can pop in and raise any concerns they may have, including antisocial behaviour.
A meeting was held yesterday where Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) and Councillor Chandra Kanneganti discussed at length the proposal to have a motocross track at the former Goldenhill Golf Course.
Notes which were taken at the 25.07.23 meeting with senior officers from SAGE, Councillor Kanneganti and the proposed developer which were relayed onto local social media sites were discussed at length, along with an abundance of comments, including those from local residents.
A joint decision was then made by the SAGE Committee and Councillor Kanneganti not to support the idea at the venue by a majority decision.
Councillor Kanneganti and Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association expressed their thank’s to the proposed developer for including them at this early stage with the proposals, and allowing us to share our thoughts with him.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) would like to thank everyone who braved “Storm Antoni” on Goldenhill & Sandyford’s special day of the year.
The event could not provide all the attractions we planned for, but Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre provided plenty of things for residents and children to enjoy on the day, especially with Aunty Dawn’s party games, face painting and balloon modelling, Momentum’s cheer leading group, and not forgetting Staffordshire Police with “Kash the Dog Mascot” and Staffordshire Fire Service from our very own Sandyford Community Fire Station.
Our thanks also go to our very own SAGE team who provided hot & cold food and drinks to everyone as well as the community centre staff who put on a bar so everyone could socialise in a pub like atmosphere.
We would also like to thank Jonathan Gullis M.P. for giving up his time to officially open the “Fun Day” for us, and to Councillor Kanneganti who attended on the day with our thanks to him for donating money from his ward budget, which helps SAGE to provide such events.

At this years Goldenhill Fun Day, Saturday 5th August from 12.00 noon onwards at Goldenhill Community Centre/Village Green there will be 30 Market Street Stalls selling a variety of items for everyone to browse, buy or even have a go on one of our tombola stalls.
Stalls on the day will consist of, crochet items, ornaments, clothes, knitted items, jewellery, pocket money toys, beads, cakes, knitted toys, crystal key rings, crafts, T shirts, personalised tumblers, crafts, brik a brak, gift ideas, resin products, children’s gift bags, clay creation, bracelets, knitted hats, coasters, light bottles & household goods. On the day Krafty Kelly Creations will also have a stall for you to check out.

On the day local G.P. Chandra Kanneganti & the Goldenhill Medical Centre Team will be holding a health check stall where you can have your blood pressure, blood sugar taken, along with healthy lifestyle advice. The British Legion will also be there on the day offering items from their stall with a request of a small donation.
A meeting has taken place today between senior members of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, Councillor Chandra Kanneganti and the proposed developer of a new Motocross circuit on the former Goldenhill Golf Course.
The proposed Motocross developer told the meeting that to raise revenue for the venue they would hold events every other Sunday to begin with and a charge of £25 per rider would bring in around £1,250 to £3,750 per day on the motocross track, and around £100 to £300 on the pit bike track@ £15 to £20 per rider. It was further reported that on site catering and eventually merchandise would also bring in revenue. It was further reported it is hoped to hold events throughout the year with a mix of petrol and electric bikes, but realistically they would be held more so in the summer months.
The meeting went onto talk about noise control, and it was said by the developer that he could arrange decibel readings to be taken near each housing estate in the area prior to any agreement, which would give the community peace of mind. The resident’s association team and Councillor Kanneganti emphasised with agreement from the proposed developer that decibel readings would also be required from the City Council as well. When being asked where would the track be positioned, the proposed developer said it would be positioned in a dip which would keep the majority of the sound away from local properties.
The Motocross representative said if the development was to go ahead that an acoustic/noise bund would be erected and possibly plant trees around the track to further minimise the noise.
The councillor and residents committee talked about on site Health & Safety, which it was said there would always be a first aider at the location. It was further discussed about insurance cover as in accidents happening on the course, which it was reported there would be a waver form for riders to sign which would put the onus onto the rider.
On site security was also discussed, and it was said a palisade fence would be installed around the track with a gate at the entrance, also it is proposed to block off any other access to the site other than for horse riders, pedestrians and dog walkers.
The track entrance was also mentioned, and it was said it would come off Mobberley Road with a stone track, with a possible water and electric feed to site. The electric feed would be used for RV charging points for electric motocross bikes to be hired out on request as well as bringing in additional revenue.
Further questions asked by the resident’s association team and councillor was. How long would they envisage it would take to set up the scheme. It was mentioned it could take between 6 to 8 months.
What about local wildlife e.g. pools at the location. It was said the track would be kept away from the pools.
How many vehicles would the onsite carpark hold. It was reported it would hold from 50 to 150 vehicles.
What public toilet facilities would there be at the location. Initially there would be portable toilets on site, but eventually there would be a permanent toilet block built.
It was asked what time of day would such events take place. It was said between 10 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.
The councillor and residents association team listened to the proposal being made, and the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, along with Councillor Kanneganti will discuss the matter further at it’s meeting next month to whether we support the proposal or not or to make further recommendations to the proposal being made.
The reason this lengthy article is being placed onto the www.sandyfordgoldenhill.co.uk website and Facebook page, along with Councillor Chandra Kanneganti’s Facebook page is for you to digest what is in the proposal and for you to place any comments you have in respect to your views on this matter.
The best way to deal with a tailgater is to let them pass.
You might think about tapping your brakes but this probably won’t deter a tailgater. It’s also dangerous.
If you think the driver is driving aggressively while tailgating you, this is an example of dangerous driving.
You can make a mental note of the number plate and send it to the police’s non-emergency number which is 101. Or you could report it by email to your local police force.
Alternatively, if you have dashcam footage, you can submit it to the police through the Nextbase website.
Some tailgaters are trying to intimidate drivers to move out of their way, but others don’t realise they’re doing it. So changing lanes safely, or pulling over to let them pass, is often the best course of action.
