Chandra Kanneganti was re-elected as Ward Councillor for Goldenhill & Sandyford. The result proved to be a resounding success for Mr Kanneganti who was elected for the conservatives with 860 votes, Labours Jeff Birks received 265 votes with Alan Dutton who was an independent receiving 79 votes. The result of yesterday’s election saw positive vibes in the Goldenhill & Sandyford Ward for the Tories, although across the rest of Stoke on Trent it went the way of the Labour Party by them taking 29 out of the 44 seats, the Conservatives 14 and the Independent’s retaining the one remaining seat. Outgoing Conservative Leader Abi Brown did retain her Meir Park seat, but Stoke on Trent will have a new Council Leader in Jane Ashworth who will be setting up a new Labour run administration for the city. New trees with money donated by local business developers have been vandalised just weeks after being planted. The damaged trees are on the edge of the old golf course down Colclough Lane next to where new saplings have been planted. It was further said one of the saplings was ripped out and support stakes have been removed as well as a number of them are now bent over to the ground. Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association (SAGE) is appalled at what it sees as unacceptable behaviour when all we want to do is to better the area where we live. The residents association can confirm that prompt action by the City Council’s Streetcare & Greenspace Team are going out there today to try and save the trees from dying. Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has vacancies for people to join it’s team. The group meets up once a month at Goldenhill Community Centre to discuss how to better the environment we live in. The residents group started back in 1999, and we have achieved many things to improve our area. Recently we started a community speedwatch group to help slow down vehicles travelling on our roads, made the council listen to our objectives to spend thousands of pounds to replace more trees in the area as well as restoring a much loved First World War Memorial Gate outside Goldenhill Community Centre. As a residents group, it goes to show not only do we listen to residents views but we also act upon them as well. So If you would like to give approximately one hour a month to be a part of our residents association then please contact Tom Simpson, Secretary through our social media channels. The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey and there’s plenty of ways to join in the celebrations in Stoke-on-Trent. So, whether you want to watch the Coronation on the big screen at Smithfield in Hanley, visit one of our local libraries, museums or parks or attend a community event – there really is something for everyone. Community Speedwatch in conjunction with Staffordshire Police has been operating in the area for the last six months as reported at last weeks Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Public Meeting. The residents group has been leading the way with the scheme to catch speeding motorists; who are putting themselves and others at risk of serious injury or even death. At present the group has caught a number of motorists who have exceeded the speed limit, and they will receive notification of their actions. It was further said at the meeting that the speedwatch group when operating on Goldenhill High Street had noted every time they visited that over 1,000 vehicles passed through in a one hour period. They also reported a couple of weeks ago that on Colclough Lane they caught 10 out of 160 vehicles speeding through the area. To be a “Community Speedwatch” volunteer requires anyone interested to give up e.g. an hour a fortnight, so if you would like to join the team then speak to the residents association via our social media pages. It was reported at Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Public Meeting last Thursday evening that the Kay Group who are building a new petrol station on James Brindley Way near to the KFC roundabout are the owners, developers and direct operators of Sandyford Service Station, and are hoping to be open by the end of the year. Paul Blackmore from the company informed the meeting that the site will be BP branded, open 24 hours 365 days of the year and will start off with an open door policy throughout the night on Friday and Saturday night. Mr Blackmore went onto say they will be having instore retailing partners Greggs and Subway on the site. The Kay Group say they will be employing 6 management positions and between 40 to 50 hourly paid jobs based on success, and that they pay over the National Living Wage, all aimed to be local residents. It was further said they will be advertising the positions through the Sandyford & Goldenhill social media pages as well as having a big banner up with contact details on how to apply for job vacancy positions.

With so much enforcement by CCTV or ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) stolen plates can be used to disguise another car to aid crimes like:Changing the identity of a stolen car so it can be soldRam-raiding or burglaryDriving from petrol stations without payingEvading congestion charges, parking and speeding fines If the number plates are stolen from your car you should report it to the police straight away – you might start receiving parking fines, speeding fines or worse. How to protect your platesUse a garage at night if you canPark in busy, well-lit areas if you have to park on the streetConsider using security screws which can be turned easily using a screwdriver to fit them but can’t be undone using normal tools.Consider using theft-resistant number plates which may cost a little more but are designed to resist known attack methods and will break apart if someone tries to remove them by force. Be a good citizen If you see another car with a number plate missing or with different plates front and back you can report it on 101, the police non-emergency number.
