Appetite’s “Music for Everyone” Hits the High Note for Goldenhill’s Fun Day

Appetite’s “Music for Everyone” is the latest addition to this year’s Goldenhill Community Fun Day, which is being held on Saturday 8th August 12.00 noon onwards at Goldenhill Community Hall/Centre & Village Green.

Appetite says it aims to get more people in Stoke on Trent to experience and be inspired by the arts, and it is now the turn of Goldenhill & Sandyford to have a bigger share of this by having them at our annual “fun day.”

The itinerary outline for the event will consist of,
  • Music Performance having a range of classic and modern songs with audience interaction and participation
  • Drum Workshop with audience participation on drum kits, African drums, and a range of hand held percussives
  • DJ Workshop with audience participation to learn DJ skills, tricks & play a DJ mix

When Appetite are not performing they will have a demo of their ‘Make and Play’ workshop and instruments, balloon modelling, and other interactive activities.

We hope everyone will come along to the event and show their support for “Appetite” along with all the other activities and events on the day.

“What a Lick of Paint Can Do”

The young people of Sandyford are in for a surprise when they see their much loved playground spruced up.

McDonald’s Staff from the Sandyford restaurant, Tom Simpson, Secretary of Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association and Tony Meredith, Volunteer Co-ordinator from Stoke on Trent City Council all played their part in repainting some very tired play equipment.

The hot weather made the task that little bit harder, but it was never going to deter the 12 strong volunteers from doing a great job.

Tom Simpson said, this is a great opportunity for business through McDonald’s, City Council, residents & local councillor to all come together as partners in helping the local community.

Well done to everyone!

Playground Refurbishment by McDonald’s Staff

McDonald’s staff from the High Street, Sandyford restaurant, along with Sandyford & Goldenhill residents association are in preparation to smarten up  much loved play equipment.

The Ridge Road play area in Sandyford has for some time been in need of a repaint, along with the football pitch goalposts.

After the deterioration of equipment was highlighted by local children, it was discussed by the S.A.G.E. residents committee and Tony Meredith, Council Volunteer Co-ordinator to see if the problem could be addressed.

Mr Meredith on behalf of the council agreed to co-ordinate the event as well as donating paint for the play equipment, and Councillor Martin Garner decided to purchase paint for goalposts out of ward budget money for the project.

The playground equipment painting is to take place on Monday 29th June at 10.00 am. weather permitting at Ridge Road Park.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in with McDonald’s staff should they have the time to spare.

Sandyford Cricket Club Suffers Invasion of Neighbouring Travellers

Travellers have again moved onto two separate pieces of land in the Sandyford area.

James Brindley Way is again a target for Travellers to move into the area with them occupying both sides of the road.

On this occasion there is at least 15 caravans visiting the site with the possibility of more to follow.

Unfortunately, one of the sites being occupied is on land where Sandyford Cricket Club plays it’s matches.

Tonight is the evening where children attend the venue to learn how to improve on their cricketing skills, but it is anticipated there may be some disruption to whether this will take place.

Churchill China’s 1.4 Million Pound Expansion Project

Sandyford based Churchill China is embarking on an expansion project worth 1.4 millon pounds.

A planning application has been forwarded to the council to extend factory buildings, which in turn will create more product activity.

It is believed that expansion to the site will enable Churchill’s to take on more staff, which the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association, along with Councillor Martin Garner & Ruth Smeeth M.P. will truly welcome to the north of Stoke on Trent.

Poetry Brings Animals & Children Together

A trip to Chester Zoo has inspired year 4 children at St Joseph’s Catholic Academy, Goldenhill to write poetry about their experiences with animals.

The children along with pupils from other year’s at the school have entered their poems in “The Sentinel’s Too Write Competition.”

Rebecca Mellor the year 4 teacher said, for their poems, we wanted to get into the mind-set of the animals to decide on whether they are happy or not living at the zoo.

Well Done! to all the children who have taken the time to write their piece of poetry, and wish them well for entering into The Sentinel’s competition.

If anyone would like to share some family friendly poems to the website then please add them to this article in the usual way.
