Staffordshire Police advise with the drop in temperature across the area we are asking all residents to be mindful when defrosting your vehicles.
If you leave your vehicle running and unattended, you make it an easy target for criminals. Although when the weather is cold you should remain with your vehicle during the time you are defrosting and ensure your windows are clear before travelling.
We are already aware of this type of incident happening in Stoke-on-Trent this week so please be aware and vigilant.

Staffordshire Police are reminding residents not to leave presents or parcels in view in the back of your vehicle over the Christmas period.
It is important to remember there is an increase in thefts from vehicles during this time of the year. If you see anything suspicious then contact the police on 101, 999 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Stoke came in at number 6 in the Top 10 Penalty Charge Notices issued to drivers in Stafford Street Hanley for being one of the most expensive streets outside London.
In 2020/21 2,009 tickets were issued in Hanley’s Stafford Street amounting to a total cost of £75,037, with Manchester’s Stockport Road topping the leader board with 5,258 tickets issued, which cost motorists £193,893.
It’s worth being mindful when times are becoming financially difficult for drivers to be sensible and not to risk receiving a penalty charge.

At this time of year, the weather can shift dramatically from clear morning skies to dark rainy afternoons which is why it is important to ensure you know the weather forecast to plan your journey and to avoid any unnecessary traffic due to roads being flooded. Due to the heavy rain we experienced on Thursday 24th November many roads including main roads such as Turnhurst Road and Ford Green Road became flooded which is a risk to road users and pedestrians, As winter approaches the weather may get worse with heavy showers, ice or snow so it is especially important to ensure that you and your vehicle are prepared to drive in these conditions.
Here are a few tips to ensure that you drive safe in these conditions: Ensure your vehicle tyres are road worthy, including the tyre tread depth (legal limit 1.6mm) and tyre pressure. Ensure your wipers (front and rear) and working as well as your heater to defrost your windows from ice and demist the inside, Ensure you drive to the speed limit and slow down if the weather conditions are affecting your visibility and driving. Give extra room to the vehicle in front of you and allow extra time for braking. Plan your journey and only travel when it is essential if the road conditions are hazardous (flooded, ice, snow).
There are many resources out there that can give further advice if you are unsure about driving in the upcoming road conditions through these winter months it is better to arrive late rather than not at all, remember to drive safe everyone!

So how many mph over the speed limit can you go?
A 2019 Auto Express survey contacted 45 UK police forces. Of the 33 that responded, 25 shared information about when their speed cameras activate if a driver is going above the speed limit, although Staffordshire Police was one of the forces who did not respond.
Most police forces have a tolerance of 10% plus 2 mph above the limit before a speed camera ‘flashes’. So on a 30 mph road, a camera wouldn’t normally activate unless a car drove past at 35 mph or faster.
So for example, on a 70 mph stretch of motorway, the threshold would go up to 79 mph.
But tolerances aren’t an excuse for breaking the speed limit. No matter what the threshold, drivers should always stick to the speed limit and never exceed it.
Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has been contacted regularly about speeding vehicles throughout the area, and along with other volunteers, and support from Councillor Kanneganti to purchase equipment, it will soon take part in a community speedwatch, which is supported by the local policing team.

Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has been in contact with a company based in Cheshire who have agreed to restore the Stonier Memorial Gate outside Goldenhill Community Centre.
Work started on refurbishing the gate on Wednesday (09.11.22) by D&N Shotblasting who are doing the restoration for free, although the residents association has spoken to the council who have agreed to pay £150 to purchase special hardwearing paint.
The history behind the gate is that the Stonier bus company erected it in 1918 after a young boy from St John’s School got killed by a bus when running out onto the High Street, and the gate was put there to try and stop any such accident/fatality happening again. When the school closed it was then decided to move it to it’s final resting place outside the community centre.
