Due to a power surge earlier today, McDonald’s Sandyford restaurant was forced to close for breakfast clients due to a total loss of power.
Repairs to correct the fault were promptly carried out, and it was reported that staff were ready to serve customers soon after 10.00 a.m. this morning.
Customers to the Sandyford branch can be reassured that the fault was a one off and management and staff are ready and waiting to carry on their good work and commitment to all of it’s clients.
Birmingham based Landstone Homes have been prosecuted in the courts due to them not carrying out urgent repairs on the old church school building on High Street, Goldenhill.
The developer was issued with a section 215 notice by Stoke on Trent City Council and because they failed to comply with the notice they received a £1300 bill by the courts.
The building has been an eyesore for the past eleven years and originally a planning application was awarded to the company to turn the building into flats.
Unfortunately for the people of Goldenhill the economic turndown in 2008 meant that the conversion of the property into self-contained flats was shelved and the only thing that followed was ongoing vandalism and arson in 2015 when the building was set on fire.
It was reported that Landstone Homes failed to attend the court hearing and no further comments have been received by the company.
Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents’ Association secretary Tom Simpson said: “Children have been breaking into the old church school building left, right and centre; it was set on fire a few years ago and we have tried to get something done with the land”.
Mr Simpson commented that St John’s Church which is next door to the old school is a listed building and that has caused a lot of problems for the company in respect to developing the land.
Tom Simpson went onto say that he is happy there has been court action taken and that the firm has been fined, although he shared concerns that this may not be enough to encourage Landstone Homes to make the required repairs or to further develop the land.

In the forthcoming General Election on Thursday 8th June; candidates who will be standing to be elected the next Member of Parliament for Stoke on Trent North & Kidsgrove have forwarded their comments to why they should receive your vote.
Ben Adams – CONSERVATIVE
“One of the issue’s we’re seeing on the doorstep is making sure we see the job completed on Europe. Brexit will offer opportunities for Stoke-on-Trent North, particularly around reducing energy costs and opening up markets for our ceramic producers.
“I’m really interested in the Conservatives’ plans for T-levels, for which I think there will be a lot of demand locally. People will have the opportunity to learn technical skills in state-of-the-art colleges, with curriculums designed in partnership with employers.
“I think there’s been a big change from just two years ago, when the main concern was creating more jobs. Now I think people are concerned about the nature of employment. Post-Brexit we want to encourage our employers to invest in local talent.”
Doug Rouxel – GREEN
“I think the key issues in this election are the NHS, the environment, education and employment. In terms of education, the Conservative plan for school funding would see schools across the constituency lose up to half-a-million pounds, which will mean losing teachers. Our local area needs a quality education system that can deliver for our young people.
“In terms of environment, I believe that we need to do more to improve our green spaces in Stoke-on-Trent, which is badly served by green spaces at the moment.
“On employment, I think it’s important we get a good Brexit deal for our ceramic industry. If we can’t trade with Europe, we’re not going to be able to compete on price with the rest of the world.”
Ruth Smeeth – LABOUR
“I’m standing on my record as MP for Stoke-on-Trent North over the last two years. I have brought investment to our constituency and fought for our community, and I want to continue that work. Since being elected I have had 7,500 pieces of casework and attended 80 surgeries.
“Going forward, I want to fight to make sure Brexit works for us. It’s not just about making Brexit happen – of course it’s going to happen – I want to make it matter for us here in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
“Over the summer I’ll be continuing my work tackling holiday hunger. I’ll be working with groups to provide 10,000 meals to children in the constituency. This is about getting real tangible results for the people here.
Richard Whelan – LIBERAL DEMOCRAT
“Social care is a really big issue, particularly with what the Tories are proposing. We are of the view that care costs should be capped and that people’s homes should not be taken into account when calculating what they should pay. But care should be properly funded, which we would do by putting an extra 1p on income tax.
“On the issue of Brexit, this isn’t about whether or not we leave the EU – that was what last year’s referendum was about. But this is about how we leave the EU. If we leave the Single Market and the customers union, companies may leave to go where it is easier to do business. Nobody in Stoke-on-Trent voted to lose their jobs.”
Tom Simpson, Secretary of Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents’ Association said, “I think regeneration is a big issue in our area; this is something that we’ve been very interested in at the residents’ association. Tom went onto say, S.A.G.E. invited Network Space to come and give a talk, and we told them that we want good jobs in Stoke on Trent, not just warehouses and call centres.
Mr Simpson added that the area has suffered for so long, so we want to see more regeneration here; we need our next MP to be someone who will fight our corner and help take us forward.
The residents association secretary further stated that Brexit is another big issue, and it’s obvious we are leaving the EU but we want someone who is going to get the best Brexit deal for our area.

An elderly gentleman was saved after a chip pan caught fire at his address in Albany Street, Goldenhill.
It was reported the bungalow was severely damaged following the fire before Firefighters arrived at the scene before 9.00 p.m. last night.
The gentleman received no injuries, although the bungalows kitchen was badly damaged and the remainder of the building was smoke logged.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire with engines coming from nearby Sandyford as well as from Hanley.
The good news for the resident was that the property was fitted with working smoke alarms that alerted him in time to get out of the building, which if not could have had more serious consequences to the outcome.

Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association has gained support from “The Sentinel” to promote use of Goldenhill Community Centre by means of people hiring the hall for all occasions.
Since it was reported last year that the community centre was to close, it meant that people would not entertain booking the venue in case of forced cancellation, and when parties etc. had already been booked, there was increased activity to cancel and hire other venues nearby.
It has been confirmed by Stoke on Trent City Council’s Councillors Lee Wanger and Randy Conteh that rumours to close the centre are untrue, and they have no plans to close Goldenhill Community Hall.
It is true that Stoke on Trent City Council needs to make savings to keep the centre more viable, and that is the position of the council’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee Chaired by Councillor Wanger to make recommendation to the council’s cabinet of a way forward to financially stableise the venue.
Since word has got around that the community centre is now open for business, it has been reported that people are again beginning to book the hall.
Goldenhill Community Centre is a great place to hold all types of events, whether it is weddings, birthday parties, dances or any other club activities then this is the place for you.
The centre features a dance hall setting, public bar area, self-contained kitchen as well as a relaxing lounge area, so why not hire Goldenhill Community Centre on 01782 782045 clearly leaving your name and contact telephone number.
