The Goldenhill War Memorial relocation consultation has proved a success with the community coming to a unanimous decision about it’s future. The consultation day on the 5th April at Goldenhill Community Centre received a number of visitors each with constructive comments, including representation from the Methodist Church and people from the War Memorial Trust in respect to it’s relocation from St John’s Church.
66 completed questionnaires were received with 51 for the old memorial to be relocated to Goldenhill Methodist Church and 3 requesting a new memorial on the same site.
The remaining 12 questionnaires returned, either did not conform to the yes/no question, not leaving contact details to leaving the memorial where it is.
Now the decision has been made by the local community about where the War Memorial’s future lies, it is now left to the Ward Councillor, City Council’s Local Matters Team and S.A.G.E. to move forward with the project.
In the coming weeks it is hoped after discussions with Goldenhill Methodist Church that a suitable resting place for the “War Memorial” can be found for it to be in a more secure and safer place.
Just to say a big thank you to everyone who participated with the consultation, including residents, questionnaire pick up points at Londis/Post Office, Mace Shop, Sandyford Stores, Premier Golden Mini Market, Goldenhill Medical Centre & Goldenhill Community Centre as well as the Council’s Local Matters Team, Councillor Martin Garner, Goldenhill Methodist Church and members of the S.A.G.E. committee.

Who remembers the good old days when Doctor Rohatgi used to see his patients along Hollywall Lane in his Sandyford surgery pictured right.
Those were the days when we used to enter his “nissen hut” type building before moving to the “Sita Medical Centre” and now “Goldenhill Medical Centre” on the High Street in Goldenhill.
Is it really 30 years ago since Hollywall Lane lost it’s G.P. surgery and school clinic, which served us as far back as the second world war.
It’s so good to go back and see these long lost memories, and if anyone can add to this story then please have your say by leaving a comment on the website.

The young man’s Parents, along with Grandparents Lynne and Dave said, they were so proud to see Taylor walking onto the Anfield turf at such a special occasion, we are sure it will be a day he will remember for the rest of his life.

Councillor Jack Brereton, City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Transport & Heritage has forwarded an update for residents to read on the S.A.G.E. website in regards to the future of the former golf course in Goldenhill.
Land of Former Goldenhill Golf Course
Councillor Brereton says, “Earlier this year I attended a SAGE public meeting at the local community centre where the future of the site was discussed at length and a whole range of views were expressed, a large proportion who were in favour of it re-opening as a golf course.
“Discussions have reached the final stage with a potential buyer to reinstate and run the golf course, unfortunately I am unable to say anything further at this stage about the proposed buyer until discussions are concluded.”
“However, I would like to add that it is important to provide a sustainable solution for the management of the site, whilst preserving its openness due to the importance of the greenbelt.”
“Some suggestions were made for the area to be made into a nature reserve and whilst I understand why some residents feel this would be beneficial, it is unlikely to be the best long-term solution for the wider community. A nature reserve would likely mean even less maintenance of the site than experienced currently and further problems of anti-social behaviour for residents living close to the site. It would also likely be difficult to find an organisation with a viable case that is willing to take on a site like this to preserve it as a nature reserve.”
“Taking into account the feedback received from some residents, I will find out more about the purchaser’s proposals linked to public right of ways. I will keep people updated on what I find out.”
