2011 is going to be a difficult year for us all especially with council cut backs, which are imminent and this is why we need as much support from residents so that we can address the issues on your behalf.

Local Memories

S.A.G.E. has been contacted by a gentleman who was raised on Goldenhill, born in Alice Street in 1946 and stayed there until 1966 when he moved to Cotton Road.
After that the gentleman lived in Ridge Road before moving to Wedgwood Farm, outside Tunstall.
In 2002 he moved to Llandudno in North Wales and he was wondering if any of the website readers would be interested in sharing memories with him.
The residents association website has now set up under the forum tab a Local Memories page so readers can talk to each other and share memories of Goldenhill & Sandyford.

Residents say “thank you” to S.A.G.E.

Residents have been thanking S.A.G.E. for helping to collect bulk waste from both sides of Goldenhill and Sandyford with its annual Saturday collections on the 27th November & 4th December.
Snow and ice could not deter dedicated residents association members, Ron, Les, Lynn, Lou, Joe & Tom from turning out and collecting rubbish with the council’s refuse collection team.
This service is invaluable to help reduce problems of fly tipping in the area but unfortunately due to council cut backs it looks as if this facility will be ended after consultation in the New Year.
What are your comments about this story?

What a Load of Rubbish

Residents of Sandyford & Goldenhill must make the most of their “Bulk Waste Collection” west of the area next Saturday (4th December) because it may be the last. The following from the City Council says all public sector organisations are experiencing financial pressures and are having to plan to make significant cuts. In response, the City Council launched the budget consultation on 1st November 2010, available on the Council’s website. As a result, the provision of the Pride In Our City (PIOC) collection service has been identified as a potential saving as part of the Council’s budgetary cuts. This proposal is considered regrettable but justifiable in that PIOC is a discretionary service, and the Council does provide disposal options for bulky waste.
What do local residents think about the possible loss of this invaluable service?

Closer to Home Circular Walks

Pat Whitehouse from the Federation of Stadium Communities (FSC) came to the S.A.G.E. committee meeting this month to give a talk on encouraging local residents to participate in walking to get fitter. Pat gave some statistics that within the city there are 88 active walk leaders, 34 walks started within 18 months & a 1,000 people are now walking within the first year of the scheme taking place.

Local walks take place at the following venues. Tunstall Victoria Park 11.00 a.m. every Wednesday, Meet in the Floral Hall Cafe & Westport Lake 2.00 p.m. Tuesdays & Saturdays, Meet in the Westport Lake Cafe.

Child Safety – St Joseph’s Primary School

S.A.G.E. has been contacted by parents and teachers at St Joseph’s Primary School to ask if visitors could keep their vehicles off the yellow lines when collecting and dropping off children at the Mobberley Road school.
It is a concern to all especially when it’s putting children’s lives at risk.

Bulky Waste Refuse Collection

A bulk waste refuse collection is to take place in Goldenhill and Sandyford. The collection dates
are Saturday 27th November 2010 – Sandyford & Goldenhill East and Saturday 4th December 2010 – Sandyford & Goldenhill West. Residents are asked to place bulk waste items onto the pavement area outside the property by 8.45 a.m. on each of the dates. The following items will not be collected on the days & they are fridges/freezers, asbestos, rubble, gas cylinders, tyres or car batteries. Help will be given to to load it if you are unable to do so yourself.
