Storm Doris has today taken away into the skies the controversial canopy at Top Gear Car Wash on Goldenhill’s main High Street.
Residents and Stoke on Trent City Council’s planning department have taken issue to the car wash set up in respect to the ongoing situation and unsightliness of the canopy, which is now on wheels to avoid planning restrictions.
Residents have shared concerns about the freewheeling canopy, which is no surprise to them after it was easily swept away into the skies. Further concerns raised by local people is it could have been far worse by the structure damaging local properties or even causing an injury or a fatality to people living in the area.

Earlier this week Staffordshire Police uncovered more than 200 cannabis plants after raiding a property in Heath Street, Goldenhill.
After examining the building it was revealed by Staffordshire Police that the electricity had been bypassed with “do it yourself” cabling, which posed a serious fire risk not only to the property in question but also to nearby neighbouring homes as well.
Tom Simpson, Secretary of Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents’ Association, said: “People have commented before at public meetings about how cars are parked on Heath Street, which would mean a fire engine would struggle to go down. This could have been very serious”.
Mr Simpson went onto say, “I am surprised by the location of where the plants were growing, at a house on a residential street. It’s bad as it can bring an area down when you hear of things like this. However, it is positive the police have taken action.”
PC Tench of Staffordshire Police has urged anyone with concerns over drug supply to contact the force. He added: “This has taken a lot of drugs off the streets. If we are provided with the information then we can act on it.”

On the 14th February at 3.30 in the morning, two males attempted to gain entry to a work’s van on Mobberley Road, Goldenhill. The assailants used some sort of a skeleton key but failed in their attempt to steal tools.

PCSO Michael Frost is reminding residents to be mindful and remove all belongings from your vehicles.
 Goldenhill Police Station
It is hard to believe that in times when Tunstall and Stoke have recently lost their police stations that Goldenhill pictured right used to have one as well.
Joe Smith, ex Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Chairman who is now in his eighties used to be our local “Bobby” who was stationed there for many year’s.
It goes to show how fortunate residents were back then to have the luxury of easily popping in to a local police station on our very own doorstep.
If anyone has any stories or memories of the police station or policing relating to Goldenhill/Sandyford then please let us have your comments for everyone to read.

130 people attended Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Public Meeting yesterday
130 people attended the Sandyford & Goldenhill Residents Association Public Meeting yesterday evening where the proposed closure of Goldenhill Community Centre was discussed.
Councillor Lee Wanger, Chair of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, which can make recommendation to the council’s cabinet about the centre’s future agreed to come and talk to residents and centre users at the meeting, this was due to Cabinet Member Randy Conteh who represents communities declined to attend after saying he did not have anything further to report due to the centre’s future being referred to the Overview & Scrutiny Committee.
Councillor Lee Wanger confirmed that the 1,000 plus petition would go to him and his committee, and residents/centre users are welcome to attend the next Overview & Scrutiny Meeting on the 16th March.
Councillor Wanger confirmed that the council has no proposals to close Goldenhill Community Centre, and then went onto to reassure everyone by saying “we have no intention of closing it”.
Residents queuing to enter community centre meeting
Councillor Wanger said that the centre can’t go on losing money, but added, we need to find a way forward to make the building more viable.
Residents were further informed that Abi Brown, Deputy Leader of the City Council was to deliver a budget presentation at the meeting, but she cancelled in late December after confirming attendance back in August 2016, reason being a budget presentation was being delivered two day’s previous at Stoke’s Civic Centre, and should residents wish to meet up with her, then they were welcome to do so. It was further said, it is disappointing news that a Council Leader believes it is correct not to honour an agreement to come and talk to a large number of residents in the north of the city, who she represents at such a high level.
